BAMSI is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization founded in Brockton, Massachusetts, with a vision of driving change and creating equal opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental and behavioral health challenges.  Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc. (BAMSI) was incorporated on March 21, 1975 as South Shore Multi-Services Inc., under Chapter 180 of the Massachusetts General Laws, as a not-for-profit human service organization. On July 9, 1975, it changed its name to Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc. It was formed for the development, coordination, and delivery of integrated human service programs, and according to its website, its mission is “to empower people and enrich their lives, through compassionate support and diverse services, one individual, one family a time.” BAMSI employees up to 2,000 people and operates adult, child, and family services, assisting approximately 30,000 individuals each year in Worcester, Middlesex, Norfolk, Bristol, and Plymouth Counties.

*Available benefits are based on position and scheduled hours. 

 

**Bonuses for new employees - 40 hours/week - $10,000, to be paid out:

$2,500 at 1 month, $2,500 at 6 months, $5,000 at 1 year of employment with BAMSI

 

 

 

 

Responsibilities

General Statement of Duties: Oversee the health care needs of individuals living in assigned residential programs. The Nursing Director provides clinical support and supervision to the nursing staff and works collaboratively with senior management to ensure the delivery of quality services and ongoing training.

 

Nursing Staff Management:

  • Provides clinical supervision of Assistant Nurse Directors. Conducts formal written supervisions and performance appraisals. 
  • Assists with interviewing and hiring nurses. Participates in hiring events with Talent Acquisition Team.  Meets weekly with assigned TAS to review vacancies. 

Case Management:

  • Assists with screening referrals: Visits nursing homes, community residences, hospitals as needed to obtain referral information. Coordinates team transition meetings with funders, guardians, BAMSI team, and person served. 
  • Coordinates Hospital Admissions/Discharges: Follows up with person served after ER visit/in patient hospitalization to ensure paperwork and discharge orders are followed up on. Coordinates with hospital/nursing home case management team to plan for discharge.  Coordinates discharge meetings with funder and guardians/person served/BAMSI team.  Provides regular communication with BAMSI team and funder throughout hospitalization.  Provides assessment of person served within one week of discharge. 
  • Work with partnering home health agencies to secure assessments, therapies and equipment for individuals served.
  • Reviews and finalizes HCSIS reports post ER/hospitalization per funder guidelines.
  • Completes written reports, assessments, etc. as required in a clear, concise and professional manner.

Training:

  • Recommends person-centered trainings post-hospitalization. Reviews person centered trainings prior to staff training at time of ISP for content. 
  • Participates in BAMSI MAP training program on rotating basis. Candidate must become a MAP trainer within 6 months of hire.  Courses include MAP, MAP recert, MAP Overview for Managers. 
  • Participates in Ehana trainings as needed.
  • Reviews medical trainings (SIC, nurse competency) and makes recommendations based on agency need.

Quality Compliance:

  • Provide clinical and administrative oversight to programs regarding DPH Medication Administration Program (MAP) procedures, protocols and compliance. Coordinates and conducts MAP review at each program in service area quarterly utilizing the MAP Technical Tool. Acts as a MAP consultant
  • Conducts semi-annual licensing audit of medical records at programs in service area utilizing BAMSI Medical Licensing Review Tool
  • Participate in investigations/inquiries providing content expertise and explanation of agency processes and practices.

Other:

  • Facilitate cluster meetings and on-going program-specific medical trainings on diagnosis, protocols, and other healthcare and wellness topics.
  • Promote a positive team environment. Ensure Positive Behavior Supports (PBS), BAMSI’s framework for delivering clinical services, are implemented by offering choices and preferred routines, meeting needs, supporting individual’s goals, modeling pro-social behaviors, and maintaining professional boundaries.
  • Participate in the planning and oversight of programs in the absence of an Assistant Nurse Director
  • Provide 24 hour on-call, on a rotating basis, to ensure nursing coverage, provide medical support, and access to resources.
  • Collaborate with staffing coordinators to ensure the centralized system for coordinating nursing coverage is implemented effectively.
  • Participate in investigations/inquiries providing content expertise and explanation of agency processes and practices.
  • Attend and participate in senior nursing and director meetings.
  • Provide 24 hour on-call, on a rotating basis, to ensure nursing coverage and optimal service delivery.
  • Rotate schedule to work holidays and weekends as needed.
  • Perform all duties in compliance with BAMSI policies and applicable laws.
  • Perform other related duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor or designee.

Attend mandatory trainings and meetings. Disseminate training materials to direct reports

Qualifications

EDUCATION/CREDENTIALS:

  • Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license in state of residence.

EXPERIENCE:

  • A minimum of five (5) years nursing experience or three (3) years supervisory experience required.
  • Knowledge of the theories, methods, procedures and practices of nursing care.
  • Two years experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Basic computer literacy, including the ability to record data, use electronic time and attendance software, receive and send electronic mail, work with the agency approved electronic health care record is required.
  • Effective critical thinking, communication and writing skills.
  • Must possess strong organizational, time management, interpersonal skills and the ability to prioritize responsibilities and work within a team environment.
  • Ability to push, pull and lift at least 25 lbs.
