BAMSI is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization founded in Brockton, Massachusetts, with a vision of driving change and creating equal opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental and behavioral health challenges.  Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc. (BAMSI) was incorporated on March 21, 1975 as South Shore Multi-Services Inc., under Chapter 180 of the Massachusetts General Laws, as a not-for-profit human service organization. On July 9, 1975, it changed its name to Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc. It was formed for the development, coordination, and delivery of integrated human service programs, and according to its website, its mission is “to empower people and enrich their lives, through compassionate support and diverse services, one individual, one family a time.” BAMSI employees up to 2,000 people and operates adult, child, and family services, assisting approximately 30,000 individuals each year in Worcester, Middlesex, Norfolk, Bristol, and Plymouth Counties.

Responsibilities

Direct Care & Coordination of Medical Services:

Identify and case health related needs, monitor health status and work with staff, physicians and allied health professionals to formulate, coordinate and implement health related treatment plans and or protocols.

Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to funder’s regulations, CARF, and DPH Medication Administration Program policies and regulations.

Provide direct care and support to individuals served as needed, including ADL care, transportation, and community outings.

Provide accurate and timely health related updates on individuals served to stakeholders including families, funders, guardians, and BAMSI team members.

Ensure medications, medical and safety supplies are available as needed.

Coordinate hospital admissions and discharges.

Utilize Positive Behavior Supports (PBS) practices, to create a thoughtful and supportive environment by ensuring activities, plans, and routines reflect the preferences, needs and goals of individuals.

 

Staff Management & Development:

Assist with interviewing and hiring nurses.

Identify and provide training to both staff and individuals served in relevant areas (e.g., health, hygiene, safety, diet, etc.).

Provide oversight of daily operations in absence of supervisor or designee, as requested.

Collaborate with the Program Manager to provide guidance for direct care staff and nursing staff, including implementing the progressive discipline process and recognition of staff achievements.

Supervise nursing staff, including implementing the progressive discipline process and recognition of staff achievements.

Provide orientation to new nurse managers, staff nurses and per diems. As needed, participate in agency clinical trainings, such as the electronic health record, Safe Individual Care, Nurse Competency, MAP overview, etc.

Quality Management:

Maintain medication books, house log books, etc. to ensure program compliance with all regulations.

Ensure safety standards and infection control procedures are followed.

Complete accurate written reports, assessments, etc.

Other:

Perform other related duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor or designee.

Provide coverage at day habilitation programs or other residential programs as needed.

Provide 24 hour on-call, on a rotating basis, to ensure nursing coverage, provide medical support, and access to resources.

Rotate schedule to work holidays and weekends as needed.

Participate in leadership and other nurse meetings.

 

Qualifications

    • Licensed Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
    • 3 years of nursing experience and prior supervisory experience preferred
    • CPR certification required
    • Knowledge of the theories, methods, procedures, and practices of nursing care.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence and satisfactory driving record
    • Basic computer literacy, including the ability to record data, use electronic time and attendance software, receive and send email, is required.
    • Ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver, and reposition 25 pounds.
    • Ability to reach, bend, stand, sit and walk; perform fine motor activities.
    • Work effectively in a moderate to occasionally loud work environment.
