Overview

Therapeutic Mentors at BAMSI provide individualized and flexible services to youth and their families with multiple stresses and needs. These services are designed to maximize individuals skills and strengths and provide the support to facilitate growth and independence. All services are part of an individualized plan as designed by the family and provider system.


The Home Based Team (HBT) engages youth and families by providing needed supports and highly individualized services in order to help strengthen families as they progress toward their goals, reduce child protective concerns, and encourage resiliency, empowerment, and self-sufficiency. In-Home therapy services is a structured, consistent, strength-based therapeutic relationship between a Clinician and the youth and family for the purpose of treating the youth's behavioral needs. Clinical services and assessments offer support to youth and families challenged by various emotional and physical stressors.


High School Diploma or GED required, Bachelor's degree is preferred.  Experience working with children and families with significant mental health and/or behavioral challenges or experience parenting children with behavioral, emotional or neurological challenges required. Must possess a valid driver's license in state of residence and own means of transportation.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  1. Work as part of a clinical team and coordinate services with other providers.
  2. Carefully review individualized Service Plan goals and provide service in accordance with goals and care plan objectives.
  3. Record necessary information, write daily progress notes and complete all other program documentation as scheduled.
  4. Provide respite for families. This may involve homework help and planned, goal-oriented activity with youth after school and/or on weekends.
  5. Transport youth to and from scheduled activities and medical appointments if needed.
  6. Ensure child and family safety and comply with all program standards.
  7. Explore and develop interest and skills of youth and their families. This may include engaging and involving youth and families in home and community-based activities.
  8. Assist parents in challenges related to daily management skills pertaining to their children. This may include helping parents get their children off to school; assist with meal planning and preparation; transportation to doctors appointments, etc.
  9. Facilitate the development of daily living skills including: food shopping, budgeting, money management skills, transportation, and utilization of community recreational activities.
  10. Follow safety/risk management plan and monitor clinical needs, successes, and barriers to youth and family progress.
  11. Perform duties consistent with program and agency policies and procedures. Universal/standard precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.
  12. Maintain all necessary documentation and communicate in a professional manner.
  13. Participate in mandatory monthly group supervision. This is required only for staff actively working with a child or family.
  14. Obtain and maintain CPR, First Aid, and Crisis Intervention certification.
  15. Perform other related work duties as needed or as assigned by supervisor or designee.
  16. Perform duties consistent with agency/program policies and procedures.
  17. Execute duties to reflect reasonable safety standards. Universal/standard precautions must be utilized and training obtained in areas that constitute risk.

Qualifications

1. High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelors degree preferred.

2. Experience working with children and families with significant mental health and/or behavioral challenges or experience parenting children with behavioral, emotional or neurological challenges required.

3. Basic computer literacy required.

4. Must possess valid drivers license in state of residence.
