BAMSI is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization founded in Brockton, Massachusetts, with a vision of driving change and creating equal opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities and mental and behavioral health challenges.  Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc. (BAMSI) was incorporated on March 21, 1975 as South Shore Multi-Services Inc., under Chapter 180 of the Massachusetts General Laws, as a not-for-profit human service organization. On July 9, 1975, it changed its name to Brockton Area Multi-Services, Inc. It was formed for the development, coordination, and delivery of integrated human service programs, and according to its website, its mission is “to empower people and enrich their lives, through compassionate support and diverse services, one individual, one family a time.” BAMSI employees up to 2,000 people and operates adult, child, and family services, assisting approximately 30,000 individuals each year in Worcester, Middlesex, Norfolk, Bristol, and Plymouth Counties.

Responsibilities

 

  1. Help individuals identify and develop interests and hobbies.  Facilitate community relationships and friendships which align with individual’s interests
  2. Empower individuals to advocate, make decisions, and become more independent in their home and communities.
  3. Assist individuals to complete personal care tasks, which included, but not limited to: toileting, showering/bathing, grooming, personal hygiene, assisting with mobility, repositioning, dressing, and range of motion exercises.
  4. Support individuals in the completion of Activates of Daily Living (ADL) tasks, which include but are not limited to: cooking, cleaning, personal hygiene, shopping and money management.
  5. Use supportive and adaptive, health-related protections/equipment as prescribed
  6. Assist in development and implementation of Individual Service Plans (ISP’s) including implementation of behavioral plans and medication treatment plans.
  7. Provide transportation for individuals to and from day programs, medical appointments and other activities as required.
  8. Utilize Positive Behavior Support (PBS) practices, to create a thoughtful and supportive environment by ensuring activities, plans, and routines reflect the preferences, needs and goals of individuals.
  9. Use integrated strategies to support personal strengths and assets of each individual served.
  10. Support individuals to make decisions across all environments to the greatest level of each person’s ability.
  11. Role model behavioral awareness through demonstrating and encouraging pro-social behaviors and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries with individuals served.
  12. Learn and utilize communication tools which include but are not limited to email, letter boards, etc. taking into consideration the method most suited to individual’s needs.  Communicate in the preferred method and language of those you provide support.
  13. Promote healthy living and relationship building, supported through individualized social, spiritual, and recreational opportunities offered in membership, access, and integrations in their communities.
  14. Assist with access to community, including transportation as needed, to individuals served to access community, examples include: to and from day programs, work, medical appointments, to see family and friends, and other recreation and leisure activities as assigned.
  15. Contribute to creating an effective team environment by being solution oriented; communicating with others in a professional and respectful manner; and fostering a happy and strength-based culture.
  16. Document data throughout shifts, including but not limited to: community-based and skill building activities; and goal attainment.
  17. Ensure client safety and compliance with programs standards for staff coverage, including assistance to Administrator –on –call whenever possible.
  18. Identity and communicate problems, concerns, or challenges to supervisors.  Follow funder reporting requirements.  Work with team members to make improvements.
  19. Demonstrate commitment to all individuals served; follow supervisors’ request to work in other nearby programs as needed and assist with staff coverage
  20. Attend staff meetings; complete all required trainings; and follow all funder, state/federal and BAMSI policies.
  21. Complete all other duties as requested

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency.  Certified Nursing Assistance, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Previous experience working with individuals with developmental and/or physicals disabilities preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license in state of residence and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to speak and write English clearly and accurately in order to keep documentation up to date and understandable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing with persons served, families, service providers and managers
  • Ability to lift, transfer, push/pull, maneuver and reposition 25 pounds
  • Ability reach, bend, stand, sit and walk, perform fine motor activities
  • Work effective in a moderate to occasionally loud work environment
